John Fitzpatrick was appointed the director of the Information Security Oversight Office on August 1, 2011. He leads the office in carrying out the President’s programs to improve transparency, openness, and access to information while ensuring that classified national security information is properly protected. These include oversight of the nation’s security classification and declassification programs, the Controlled Unclassified Information program, the Public Interest Declassification Board, the Interagency Security Classification Appeals Panel, the National Industrial Security Program and the program for classified information for state, local, tribal and private sector entities.
