Thinking in 3D: Additive Manufacturing Symposium
The SiMT will host “Thinking in 3D,” Additive Manufacturing Symposium 2015. We’re excited that our keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Brian Post of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Dr. Post's research at ORNL’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility includes the development of large scale additive manufacturing processes capable of producing large parts (8’ x 20’x 6’, 1000+lb) at rates 1000x faster than current commercially available systems. This system was utilized to print the world’s first 3D printed car, the Strati, and the ORNL 3D Printed Shelby Cobra.

Lunch will be provided and additional sessions will include:
- 3D Scanning with FARO - demonstrate scanning an existing part, to editing a point cloud, to creating a finite mesh, which will ultimately result in a feature based CAD model
- Tours and demonstrations of the SiMT's Additive Manufacturing Center and Maker Space
- Implementation of Virtual Reality with head-mounted devices
