HIGH RISK CIED DISMOUNTED SEARCH - CANADA



We must make sure that we have a good understanding of the enemy TTP`s when emplacing IED`s within the battlespace. Every precaution should be taken to mitigate the risk before any approach is made to an area where we suspect that an IED may be placed.

 

OVERVIEW

The two day course will be split in half with regards to 50% will be classroom based whilst the other 50% will be practical in the Field training. We will study enemy patterns and emplacement before we then discuss what tools we have to assist us in detecting the IED and reducing the threat as much as possible before we confirm then decide to approach or avoid.

 

SCHEDULE

As part of the training the students will be exposed to the following

• Exposure to functional IED training devices

• Enemy TTP`s when emplacing IED`s

• “Hands on” practical Exercises using Hook & Line, Sickle Stick & Metal Detectors

• Vehicle load plans when working in a CIED environment

• Terrain analysis exercises

• Mission exercise threat assessments

• Ground sign awareness field exercises

TRAINING METHODS

The first day will be all classroom based with the second day being in the field. The class will be split down into small groups and will get practical hands on training using equipment and practicing IED confirmation drills. The training will be conducted using inert training aids, search tools and role players.

TRAINER BACKGROUND

 

A former UK Commando/Paratrooper with over 25 years of experience in the Counter Improvised Explosives Defeat Operations worldwide, and was working with the US government for over 7 years in the EOD/CIED training. George is a Senior Military instructor and was involved in course design, curriculum review, coaching and mentoring of instructor at the UK National Search Academy. He is a British Army Sergeant Major and was embedded military representative working within the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) for the US military, and he developed the Search/Tactical Site Exploitation as a new concept in how US Forces train for operating in counter insurgency warfare (2006 – 2008). He was also responsible for training and managing specialist High Risk Search teams (HRST) for working with the United Kingdom Special Forces in incident response for maritime interdiction (MI) operations within the UK.
