Writing Statements of Work

This course is designed to provide participants with practical experience writing a statement of work (SOW), a keycomponent of the government solicitation and the heart of the final contract.

This two-day course offers a solid framework participants can use to improve their writing skills so that they can craft SOWs that generate competitive proposals and guide quality contractor performance. In engaging team activities, participants apply best practice writing techniques to critique and rewrite SOW excerpts. The course also gives participants the opportunity to work in teams to draft an SOW based on a realistic requirement. This Statement of Work course will be applicable to professionals responsible for identifying needs, writing or reviewing requirements, and generating quality contracts.

• Describe how to prepare a statement of work (SOW)
• Analyze SOWs to determine areas of improvement
• Apply best practice writing techniques to improve an SOW excerpt
• Develop evaluation factors to ensure effective SOWs
• Draftan SOW based on a realistic requirement
