Utilizing a Shared Services Model to Manage a Federal Enterprise

In October 2015, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the General Services Administration (GSA) announced the first-ever government-wide operating model for shared services, including the establishment of the Shared Services Governance Board (SSGB) and creation of the Office of Unified Shared Services Management (USSM).  See official White House announcement

On May 4th, OMB issued guidance to agencies on Improving Administrative Functions Through Shared Services. See memorandum.

With ever-expanding mission requirements, continuing budgetary challenges, and cumbersome legacy IT systems, federal agencies are faced with many hurdles to become fully evolved digital enterprises. Today, a single large agency or department may have many hundreds, perhaps thousands, of outdated systems in place – making meeting mission requirements in a cost-efficient and effective manner all the more difficult.

To improve operational performance, reduce costs, while best serving constituents and the mission, now is the time for a bold approach for the sharing of resources. On the morning of Tuesday, June 21st, Digital Government Institute is holding a dynamic seminar providing insights into how the federal government can best utilize a shared services model for more effectively managing the enterprise, leveraging IT assets, as well as dispelling any fears about this new transformation.  The event will also provide a technology roadmap for enabling shared services across all federal agencies.
