Cuba: The Embargo within the Embargo
Join the Alaska World Affairs Council on Friday, September 30th from 12pm-1pm at the Anchorage Hilton Hotel for a program on “Cuba: the Embargo within the Embargo“ featuring Ambassador Charles Shapiro.
Shapiro, the president of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, has organized and led five trips to Cuba, including with the mayor of Atlanta. Shapiro will be discussing the ramifications of the recent lifting of the embargo on Cuba.

Speaker and Presenter Information
Charles Shapiro is president of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta and a senior lecturer at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. From 2011-2013 Shapiro was the president of the Institute of the Americas, a think tank at the University of California San Diego. Previously, he held numerous senior positions at the U.S. Department of State, including Ambassador to Venezuela, principal deputy assistant secretary for the Western Hemisphere, and Coordinator for Cuban Affairs.
