Local Energy America's Power

The American Energy Society is convening a summit on emerging energy technologies suitable to the Upper South/Mid-Appalachia region, with emphasis on potential business development and job creation. The objectives for the Summit are straightforward: strengthen the energy cluster of the area and create a model that can serve as a best practice for other regions. Co-hosted by Emory & Henry College in beautiful Southwest Virginia, leaders with expertise in science and engineering, business and industry, capital and policy will contribute to the summit. Panel discussions will be broadcast as a webcast and the proceedings will be published and distributed as a white paper.

Talks include:

  • The Cutting Edge of Carbon Capture - In one of the first post-election events on energy in the country, speakers and panelists offer views that represent the full spectrum of opportunities, promising a balanced, thoughtful, engaging review of one of the most pressing issues facing the country today. Following the moderated discussion, panelists will answer questions from the audience.
  • CONVENTIONAL SOLUTIONS:  A discussion of innovation in fossil fuel, nuclear, solar and other conventional energy, including generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • RENEWABLE SOLUTIONS: Discussion of emerging technology in non-conventional energy sources.
  • ACCESS TO AND THE CREATION OF AN INNOVATIVE ECOSYSTEM: Barriers to and opportunities for capital in the Upper South/Mid-Appalachia. Focus on funding sources such as public/private partnerships, venture capital and Government research grants.
  • NFRASTRUCTURE & WORKFORCE: Issues and opportunities for industry and the workforce, with special emphasis on infrastructure and training of skilled labor for new and existing technology through the full supply chain.
