Foundations in Water Loss: Resolving Apparent Losses at Your Utility

According to the Water Research Foundation, apparent losses in American water utilities account for annual water loss of 58,774 MG and annual financial loss of $489M (on average).  With water audits providing a top-down approach to estimate real and apparent losses, water utilities in Georgia and California are near to entering the next phase of apparent losses, which is identifying and resolving apparent losses as they occur. In this webinar, speakers will give case studies regarding the latest in apparent loss programs: one from a Georgia utility that uses AMR data and one from a California utility that uses AMI data. In addition, a speaker will demonstrate results from a real-time apparent loss software tool that uses a “bottoms up” method now in use in six states (CA, GA, PA, IN, NJ, FL). The tool locates eight types of apparent water loss categories at the meter level. Participants will learn how to detect losses and how to resolve them using meter-level data. Results of the software tool show promising levels of water savings, embedded energy savings, and top-line revenue delivered to water utilities.
