How to Implement Utility Climate Action Plans

Changes in water—supply, quality, utility operations—are one of the primary implications of climate change. However, identifying changes that will occur in any community's water is complicated by the magnitude and layers of uncertainty associated with regionally varying effects of climate change. This webinar will provide participants with an understanding of how to handle climate uncertainty in their planning processes through the creation of a Climate Action Plan.

Most water utilities today understand the need to incorporate climate change into their planning processes, but they are not sure how. Utility professionals who attend this webinar will learn how to systematically develop an approach to address climate change through development of a Climate Action Plan that includes tools for setting goals and tracking progress over time.

Identifying how changes in climate will affect a utility’s site-specific risks and vulnerabilities, as well as  risk responses, requires water professionals to understand complex scientific outputs as well as how to handle a new type of uncertainty. The content of this webinar will help water utility professionals to do a high-level evaluation of a utility’s vulnerability and risk and then develop a Climate Action Plan to address the risks through explicit actions.
