Perfluorinated Compounds: Research & Treatment Part II

The aim of this webinar is to provide comprehensive and useful information to address Perfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) in drinking water sources. The PFAS occurrence in different geographic areas will be presented, and the current US Environmental Protection Agency health advisory level for Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctanyl Sulfonoate (PFOS), plus anticipated regulations will be discussed. The ongoing research efforts regarding the persistent, recalcitrant characteristics of PFAS and their treatability will be reviewed. Treatment technologies such as anion exchange, reverse osmosis (RO), and GAC adsorption will be compared using such criteria as performance, capital and O&M costs, land requirements, and residuals handling, and frequently asked questions about GAC adsorption’s effectiveness for long-chain and short-chain PFAS compounds will be covered using results of testing conducted on the West and East Coasts.
