Asia Pacific Export Controls 2017: The Year in Review and a Look Ahead

Malaysia released an overhaul of its strategic trade regulations and the Philippines finalized the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) for its Strategic Trade Management Act (STMA). On January 1, 2018, Thailand will go live with its new export controls along with its published draft of “Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Act.”

Perhaps the biggest news of all, China published and sought public comment on a draft of its first ever “Export Control Law.”  Not to mention, several key APAC countries like Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong updated their national control lists, all doing so to different degrees, causing confusion for many. Everyone in the region is also grappling with the current North Korea crisis as well as the new restrictive trade measures being imposed in response to the situation. With so many changes, the APAC export control arena is puzzling to many at this time, but this webinar will help bring things into focus for you and your business in and with the region.

This webinar is intended to help companies in the electronics, industrial manufacturing, logistics, IT, aerospace, chemical, energy, and bio-tech sectors wrap their minds (and compliance programs!) around the changes that are taking place in APAC export controls, and provide valuable insight on what the future of Asia Pacific export controls holds.  This webinar has been designed for APAC regional compliance teams and personnel responsible for covering multiple APAC countries and jurisdictions.  Specifically, this webinar will:

• Deliver a comprehensive overview of the key export control-related developments in the Asia Pacific in 2017 and a look ahead to 2018 for Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan;

This webinar will provide PowerPoint slides and include live video and commentary from Jay Nash who specializes in non-US trade controls and compliance. Mr. Nash has worked with national governments from every region of the world to provide guidance and support on establishing domestic export control systems and developing compliance tools and resources for industry.  Mr. Nash is a regular speaker and presenter at regional and international export control conferences and he has published on East Asian trade control developments in the US, Japan, and Korea. Webinar participants are invited to submit questions during the webinar; the final 30 minutes of the webinar will be allotted to answering attendees' questions.
