About the New Federal Procurement Program for Women Owned Small Businesses [#B2GEDU]

On October 7, 2010, the U.S. Small Business Administration published a final

rule effective February 4, 2011, aimed at expanding federal contracting opportunities for women-owned small businesses (WOSBs).

The Final Rule sets forth procedures authorized by the Small Business Act to help ensure a level playing field on which WOSBs can compete for Federal contracting opportunities, while helping achieve the existing statutory goal that 5 percent of Federal contracting dollars go to women-owned small businesses.

Are you ready to do business in this expanded set-aside category?

To make sure you have all the information needed for success, we've asked SBA District Director, Bridget Bean to provide a comprehensive overview of the program to include eligibility, certification (Needed or not?) and how the program will be implemented government-wide.

The Facilitator
In April of 2009, Bridget Bean was named as the District Director of the Washington Metropolitan District Office for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Prior to this appointment, Ms. Bean served in numerous leadership capacities within SBA’s headquarters. These previous positions provided her with a keen understanding of policy development which will help her implement the key areas of SBA activity that are vital for the growth and development of small businesses in the Metropolitan D.C. area.

Her experience in the areas of Small Business Advocacy, Government Contracting and Procurement, and Entrepreneurial Development Assistance, will have particular benefit for the more than 1,700 local firms that currently participate in the SBA’s 8(a) Business Development program through the District Office.
Most recently, Bridget Bean served as Deputy Associate Administrator for the agency’s 68 field offices across the nation. In this position, she was in daily contact with all the SBA District Directors and was able to identify the practices and habits of the most effective offices in the country. She will use this knowledge and utilize the most responsive and successful field practices to effectively address the needs of small business owners in the DC area.
