Getting Started with Geospatial Data Fusion

The rapid development of the World Wide Web together with the widespread use of location-enabled mobile devices has considerably influenced the availability and use of geospatial data. Geospatial datasets are created, managed, and utilized according to the spatial scale of the real world (ground/surface/underground or indoor/outdoor) and the intended end use. Geospatial Data Fusion has been successfully applied in the earth observation and space applications, computer vision, military & security, as well as many other areas such as emergency management, medical imaging, etc. For military applications, the intelligence extracted from geospatial data fusion makes it easier for analysts to recognize relevant patterns and identify potential adversaries. But the combination of two or more different datasets is successful if only incorporating data features that are suitable for the intended application. This session will provide the necessary foundational knowledge to get started on geospatial data fusion. It will also present a variety of examples that focus on the fusion of data (high-resolution imagery, multispectral imagery, raster, vector, and text data).
