GEOINT 101



This one-day course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of the Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) community, core GEOINT technologies and operations, and the role of GEOINT in national security affairs supporting decision makers and operations. It is intended for those seeking a broad understanding of the evolution of GEOINT as an intelligence discipline; the current state of GEOINT collection, analysis, and community management; and the core operational and technical concepts necessary to interact within the international GEOINT community.

The course will cover:

  • The history of GEOINT
  • Fundamentals and Key Concepts
  • Data Sources and Analytic Approaches
  • Case Studies in Applied GEOINT
  • Community Overview
  • Emerging Issues and Opportunities

The course theme, “We are all GEOINTers,” draws on everyday experiences with Google Earth, Microsoft Virtual Earth and GPS technology to enable learning across all experience levels; this course uses real-world problems and data. This course is designed for a wide audience, including those from civil, federal, not-for-profit, state, local and tribal organizations.

The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (www.usgif.org) developed this course and offers it in partnership with The Intelligence and Security Academy. This is the only GEOINT 101 course certified by USGIF. A 10% discount is available for USGIF members.
