The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will host a VIRTUAL EEO Seminar, "Workplace Transformation- Light At The End Of The Tunnel And Along The Way",  on March 31, 2021 from 12:00 pm – 3:10 pm EST.

 

This highly informative and interactive seminar, featuring some of the EEOC’s most senior leaders, and other well-known and highly esteemed and sought-after speakers, will provide employers and employees in both the private and public sectors (including state, local, and federal governments) with information, tools, and strategies to address emerging issues in equal employment opportunity (EEO) and human resources (HR).   Specifically, this seminar will provide training, education, and guidance on topics of increased interest during the pandemic such as reasonable accommodations and religious protections amid the pandemic, as well as COVID-19 and the laws enforced by the EEOC, and COVID-19s impact on women and caregivers. 

 

The registration fee for this event is $150 per person and Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and Federal EEO Investigator Refresher credits will be provided on an hour-for-hour basis. Additionally, application has been made with North Carolina State Bar for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit and information will be provided on how to seek CLE credit in other states.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Thomas M. Colclough currently serves as the District Director of EEOC’s Charlotte District.  Thomas has over 25 years of experience with EEOC investigating charges and complaints of discrimination and leading high-performing teams.  He has served in various leadership positions at EEOC, e.g., Enforcement Supervisor, Local Director, Area Director, Systemic Coordinator and Deputy District Director.  On July 21, 2020, Thomas was promoted to the position of District Director.  In this position, he plays a key role in fulfilling the agency’s mission through strategic enforcement management and planning.

 

Karen Michael is the President of Richmond-Virginia based Karen Michael, PLC, a work law & HR consulting firm founded in 2008.  The firm specializes in leadership training, workplace investigations, HR Consulting, and employment law advice. Karen is a former human resources executive and employment attorney with over 25 years of experience in providing advice and consulting with clients.  Karen served as First Vice President of Employee Relations at SunTrust Bank and practiced law at McGuire Woods after graduating with honors from University of Richmond School of Law. Karen also taught at University of Richmond’s School of Continuing Studies and regularly teaches at the Executive MBA Program at Virginia Commonwealth University. She writes a weekly labor law article for the Richmond Times Dispatch Business section, and regularly speaks at national and local events, including the national SHRM conference.

Sharon Rennert is the senior member of the EEOC’s ADA/GINA Division, having joined the Division in January 1992. Ms. Rennert develops the Commission’s policy interpretations of the ADA and has worked on almost every ADA policy guidance and fact sheet issued by the Commission. She also specializes in providing private and public sector employers with practical approaches to ADA compliance.
