AFCEA Spring Intelligence Symposium: "Analysis and Analytics... Achieving Decision Advantage"

During the first decade of the 21st century, threats to U.S. national security have changed dramatically while the volume, variety and availability of information concerning these threats has grown at an unprecedented rate. These changes have presented extraordinary challenges for the Intelligence Community (IC) analytic effort and have greatly increased the importance of timely and coherent cross-agency collaboration.

The 31st annual AFCEA Spring Intelligence Symposium will examine how individual agencies, and specifically the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, have responded to the need for adjustments in core analytic processes and functions.  Key community seniors including Mr. Charles Allen, Principal, Chertoff Group; General James Cartwright, USMC (Ret.), former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the inaugural Harold Brown Chair in Defense Policy Studies Center for Strategic and International Studies; Director Letitia Long, NGA; Mr. Michael Morrell , Deputy Director, CIA; The Honorable James Simon, Chief Strategist, Worldwide Public Sector,  Microsoft Corporation; and Mr. George Spix, Architect, Microsoft Institute for Advanced Technology in Governments, will provide their perspectives on the state of IC analytics and set the stage for four focused sessions on the role of analysis in achieving decision advantage – whether on the stage of diplomacy or the field of battle.

The symposium’s first session will explore evolving analytical needs from the perspectives of intelligence consumers.  Session two will highlight the changing requirements of intelligence analysts.  The third session will shift gears and assess the innovations available to support intelligence analysis.  In the final session, representatives of the principal analytic agencies will discuss their plans for analytic investments in the context of the looming budget reductions and the rapid evolution of commercial tools and practices.

We hope you will join us on April 18-19, 2012, in the new NGA Campus East facility!
