Washington Technology Power Breakfast: Doing Business with the DIU

Commonly called by its acronym, DIU, the Defense Innovation Unit is a gateway into the defense market for cutting edge commercial technologies. It is also a broker of sorts for traditional contractors looking for new and innovative solutions from the commercial world.

The work DIU does is crucial for the U.S. military as it works to counter a wide range of threats to our national security from near peer rivals such as Russia and China as well as other bad actors such as North Korea and Iran. The conflict in Ukraine is a prime example of the breath of capabilities needed to counter a determined aggressor.

In this Power Breakfast, we’ll dive into how DIU operates and what it is looking for from industry partners. This will include high level briefings from DIU executives who will share the various tools and mechanisms that they use to get powerful new technologies into the hands of the warfighter. They can’t do this without partnerships that include emerging commercial technology firms and traditional contractors. How to cross the gap between those two groups – often called the Valley of Death – is one of the biggest challenges in the defense market and it is exactly the challenge DIU was created to address.
