Construction Quality Control / Information Data Systems for Dam Rehabilitation

This event qualifies for 2 PDHs

Join us on June 11, from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Eastern for Construction Quality Control / Information Data Systems for Dam Rehabilitation. We live in an information age. A huge variety of digital tools and methods are in use to assure quality in dam construction. These tools can be leveraged to verify compliance with specifications, excavation limits, production rates, construction limits, structure size, geotechnical instrumentation trends, and generate as-built records much more efficiently than manually compiled and analyzed data. This webinar will look at the use of digital tools in managing the enormous amount of data generated by a project. As a result, construction quality and compliance with design intent can be ascertained in real time and inform decisions that must be made in a timely manner to minimize delays and project impacts. Tools for automated record keeping and as-built drawings will be explained along with data management both during the project and at construction’s end.

Learning objectives attendees will receive from this webinar:

  • Identify digital tools and approaches available to assist with dam construction.
  • Understand how to manage incoming data during construction.
  • Understand how to leverage available data during construction to evaluate elements of work outside of specifications.
  • Review reporting, records, and final data storage.
  • Review case histories that demonstrate leverage of data management tools.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Conrad Ginther
Principal Engineer

Geosyntec Consultants

Mr. Ginther is a principal engineer focused on design and implementation of seepage barriers and other specialty construction, including post-tensioned anchors, drilling and grouting, cutoff walls, and composite barriers in the dams and water resources sector. He oversees complex and high-profile infrastructure projects and has a strong background in specialty geotechnical construction, dam safety, dam design, QA/QC, materials testing, mix designs, and remediation for embankment and concrete dams. Mr. Ginther is an advocate for advanced data management practices as valuable and essential tools for successful specialty construction applications.

Andrew Higgins
Senior Data Manager

Geosyntec Consultants

Mr. Higgins is a senior data management specialist with a focus on geospatial information management systems. Mr. Higgins supports various construction projects, infrastructure tracking and reporting projects, and environmental remediation projects throughout the United States and Canada. His work has focused on developing and implementing automated data workflows and visualization involving spatial and non-spatial data sets; presenting data in 2-, 3- and 4-Dimensions; and custom electronic reporting solutions. Mr. Higgins has led the design and development of Information Management Systems at Boone Dam, Waterfront Toronto, and Gowanus Canal. He is a database and GIS expert, proficient in Microsoft SQL Server, ESRI ArcGIS/ArcGIS Server, and many other tools and software packages.

Jamey Rosen

Senior Principal Data Manager
Geosyntec Consultants

Jamey Rosen is a senior principal geologist and data manager at Geosyntec Consultants. He has degrees in geology and hydrogeology and over 25 years of experience focused on the management, visualization, modeling, and analysis of construction, geotechnical, and environmental data using database and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology. Jamey is an industry leader in the design and implementation of Information Management Systems for deep foundations construction projects and has been the Data Manager of record on seepage barrier installations at the Herbert Hoover Dike, Wolf Creek, Center Hill, Bolivar, and Boone Dams among others. He is the lead developer of several web-based data management systems for the engineering and infrastructure industries, including "WallTracker" and other GIS programs. Jamey is also the current chairperson of the Deep Foundations Institute Information Management Systems committee.
