Facing the Technical Data Challenge

Tech Data Export Controls 2013 Update--There Are No Easy Answers

Doing business in 2013 is tough, needless to say. But, doing it while trying to comply with export control rules largely crafted 20-30+ years ago is down right hard. Despite government adjustments to certain aspects of the technical data export control rules, export compliance challenges are growing and changing at a pace far faster than the government changes the export control rules. 100% compliance is impossible.  What are you to do?

John Black will highlight key aspects of the current rules and recent changes.  He will also offer up approaches to handling the key tech data compliance challenges for 2013, including, among others, these issues:

  • Deemed exports
  • Cloud computing
  • Getting a grip on recent changes to the rules
  • Finding your technical data and determining how it is controlled
  • US controls on non-US technical data and technology
  • US and non-US company collaboration to develop or enhance technology
  • Emailing to recipients with changing locations
  • Non-US parties administration of US servers
  • Dual and third country national issues
  • Using encryption and other security tools to mitigate risk
  • Conducting a self-assessment to find and analyze your tech data compliance risks
  • Merger & acquisition issues for acquirers and targets
  • Living with the reality of imperfect compliance: Setting priorities

This webinar will provide PowerPoint slides and include live video and commentary from John Black who has been working in the export controls industry for over 28 years. Webinar participants will be invited to submit questions during the webinar, the final 30 minutes of the webinar will be allotted to answering attendees questions.
