Data Center Consolidation

Federal Data Center Consolidation: Meeting Deadlines and Creating Opportunities

In 2010, the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative was implemented across all government departments and armed service branches. Spearheaded by the Executive Office of the President of the United States, the FDCCI intends toclose 40% of our nation’s 2900 data centers by 2015, with predicted savings of $3 to 5 billion. The initiative is one of many strategies taken by the federal government in order to increase IT efficiency while lower the cost to the taxpayer and the environment.

Though seemingly achievable on paper, government departments and agencies across the board are facing serious difficulties in meeting FDCCI deadlines. Common problems at this stage are taking accurate inventories of IT equipment, measuring data center power usage and adapting federal data centers to the cultural implications of inter-agency consolidation. In addition, cyber security and sustainability are eternal concerns for data center managers and the FDCCI moving forward.

IDGA’s 3rd Annual Data Center Consolidation Summit

will address these issues and more through presentations and discussions led by government officials at the head of our data center consolidation efforts. Presenters from government and industry alike will examine the latest solutions and technologies for consolidation, including could computing and virtualization. Listen to the latest FDCCI status updates, as well as federal data center consolidation challenges and opportunities from the:

  • Department of Energy
  • Department of Defense
  • Department of Labor
  • Department of Homeland Security
  • National Security Administration
  • Much more!

U.S. federal IT capabilities are in a state of great transition and modernization. Data center consolidation is a major priority across the board, and DCC 2013 will set the stage for decision-makers to express requirements and listen to industry solution providers.
