FEMP First Thursday Seminar: Data Center Energy-Efficiency Best Practices

The US Department of Energy Federal Energy Management Program is pleased to announce the First Thursday Seminar Data Center Energy Efficiency Best Practices that will air on Thursday, April 7th, 2015 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm EST. 

 

This seminar will cover why energy-efficient data centers are critical, energy-efficiency opportunities, and energy management improvement processes. Topics include best practices for acquisition, benchmarking, performance metrics, and managing energy and environmental systems in Federal data centers

 

Upon completion of this course learners will be able to 

  • Understand why data center energy use is a concern and an opportunity
  • Identify and define key data center benchmarking and energy performance metrics
  • Understand use of information technology to manage data center energy
  • Identify key federal requirements related to energy efficiency in data centers.

Instructor for this course is Dale Sartor of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. 

 

After completing a course evaluation and multiple-choice assessment, participants will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible for continuing education units.  

 

First Thursday Seminars are designed for Federal energy and facility managers, but are open to all individuals through the FEMP training database. Courses are hosted in partnership with the National Institute of Building Sciences Whole Building Design Guide.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Dale Sartor is an engineer at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), where he assists with the transfer of new and underutilized technology. He has more than 35 years of professional experience in energy efficiency and renewable energy applications, including 10 years as principal of an architecture and engineering firm and seven years as the head of LBNL’s In-House Energy Management Program. He oversees the Federal Energy Management Program’s new Center of Expertise for Data Centers. Sartor has an AB in architecture and a master’s degree in business administration. He is a licensed mechanical engineer and a licensed general building contractor.
