Embassy/Defense Attaché Luncheon Series - Japan
NDIA's International Division presents a luncheon withMaj. Gen. Atsushi Hikita, Defense and Air Attaché, Embassy of Japan, Washington, DC.
As the United States shifts its strategic focus towards the Asia-Pacific and China is becoming more regionally assertive, Japan is rethinking its strategic posture. It is contemplating the revision of its “Three Principles” on arms exports and participation in global security operations; it is developing its first National Security Strategy and creating a National Security Council; it is trying to update its classification system; and, it is developing new National Defense Program Guidelines.
Within this dynamic context, Maj. Gen. Hikita will describe the future of the Japanese Self Defense Forces according to Japan’s new National Defense Program Guidelines, which are to be released in December. He will discuss Japan’s evolving capabilities, regional role and contribution to the global community.
General Hikita will be available for a Q&A session following his remarks.
