North South Africa Corridor 2014
The North South Corridor is the busiest transport system in Southern Africa linking the Zambian copper belts to Durban and Dar Es Salaam as well as the copper belt in the DRC to the same ports. 80% of cargo in Africa is moved via the road networks. The corridor has been highlighted by the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite as a priory infrastructure development project as the state of the roads is hindering trade and economic integration in the region. Due to this prioritization, the corridor is undergoing extensive works to upgrade as well as build new roads and rail links along the corridor.
