Gas Industry and Market Fundamentals

This course will provide participants with a fundamental grounding in the Australian gas industry, covering the key technical, commercial and contract aspects of the industry.

The course begins with an overview of industry structure and the important links with other industries, such as oil, followed by a short review of upstream activities including how gas is formed and how it is found and produced.

A study of the gas transportation network will outline the movement of gas flows around the country, infrastructure capacities and constraints, how gas is delivered to customers, and aspects of gas utilisation. The course will then consider the development of the Western Australian gas market, from initial discoveries and production to the present.

The commercial section provides an analysis of the gas market and explains the business strategies of major industry players. With an understanding of how the existing gas market works (Australia and WA in focus) and the fundamental drivers for changes, future market outcomes will be examined.

Learn what upstream producers, gas transmission pipelines, retailers and customers should do to position for these dramatic market changes.

The course provides insights into gas industry contracts, what's important, what's not, and what are some contracting tips and traps for buyers and sellers.
