Russia, Ukraine, and export controls have been popular topics in the news as of late, but don’t let all the Russia sanctions completely distract from what’s been happening with export controls in Russia and several other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.

The Russian government has made several key changes to its own export controls over the last year, from updating Russia’s control lists to modifying requirements for company internal compliance programs (ICPs).  Meanwhile, the same push-and-pull playing-out on the region’s political stage can be seen among the different export control systems across the region.  Both Ukraine and Kazakhstan have taken steps to pattern their export control systems after those of European countries at the same time that Russia is urging many of its neighbors to follow its national export control model. Add to this the export control implications of the regional Customs Union and recently formalized Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), and you’re looking at a regional export control landscape as expansive and complex as the former Soviet Union itself.  So if you’re continuing or planning to trade in controlled items in/with Russia and/or other CIS countries, you need to be prepared to navigate the region’s new and ever-shifting export controls, and this webinar can help!

Specifically, this webinar will provide:

  • An update on Russia’s export control system, including recent changes to Russia’s commodity control lists and license application recordkeeping requirements;
  • A survey of Ukraine’s and Kazakhstan’s export control systems and how they reflect elements of both European and Russian export controls;
  • A discussion of the export control implications of regional such as the Customs Union and the newly formed Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), including when export controls apply to intra-regional transfers;
  • An overview of export control systems in other CIS countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Moldova;
  • Information on what trade activities in CIS countries come with greater compliance (and government audit) requirements, and the penalties for violations; and,
  • How you can realize export control compliance efficiencies across the region.

This webinar will be especially valuable for companies that need to:

  • Classify their products in accordance with the control lists of Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and other CIS countries;
  • Determine the export compliance costs and risks of doing business in the aerospace, automotive, chemical, electronics, energy, IT, and industrial equipment sectors in Russia and other CIS countries;
  • “Localize” existing trade compliance programs to meet CIS country legal/regulatory requirements and procedures; and,
  • Conduct R&D activities in CIS countries or transfer encryption or controlled technology in to or out of the region.

This webinar will provide PowerPoint slides and include live video and commentary from Jay Nash who specializes in non-US trade controls and compliance. Webinar participants are invited to submit questions during the webinar, the final 30 minutes of the webinar will be allotted to answering attendees' questions.
