GIS in the Rockies

GIS in the Rockies is the premier geospatial conference in the intermountain West.  2010 marks the 23rd annual conference.  Our mission statement is:  "Creating a forum for business, government, and academia to foster collaboration and education related to important topics, emerging trends and innovations across the geospatial community."

This year's conference focuses on examining the growth opportunities for geospatial technology in our information-dependant world. The geospatial industry has come a long way in the first 10 years of the 21st Century. Our world has become more geo-enabled than ever. As we close out one decade and start a new one, we want to celebrate the accomplishments of our industry and look forward to new opportunities for growth in the technological boom that is upon us. Join us in learning, sharing, and networking with some of the industry's best and brightest individuals and cutting-edge companies, right here in our own backyard.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Our plenary keynote speaker on Wednesday morning, September 15th will be Peter Batty. Peter Batty is a Founder and VP of geospatial technology at Ubisense. He has worked in the geospatial industry for 20 years and has served as CTO for two leading companies in the industry (and two of the world's top 200 software companies), Intergraph and Smallworld (now part of GE Energy). He serves on the Advisory Board of FortiusOne. He has spoken at many conferences around the world, and has received a record nine speaker awards from the Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA). He writes a blog at geothought.blogspot.com. Our lunchtime keynote speaker on Thursday, September 16th will be Dr. Joseph J Kerski, PhD. Joseph serves on the Education Team at ESRI. The goal of the ESRI education program is to empower instructors, students, education administrators, and educational policymakers to analyze data in a spatial analytical framework within a GIS environment to understand spatial relationships, patterns, and trends. Prior to joining ESRI in 2006, Joseph served for 17 years as Geographer and Cartographer at the US Geological Survey, and for 4 years as Geographer at the US Census Bureau. He has taught as adjunct instructor of GIS at Sinte Gleska University on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, at the University of Denver, in primary and secondary schools, and in online courses. Joseph holds three degrees in Geography and is enthusiastic about studying biomes, population, landforms, hazards, and other topics using technology, maps, and imagery. He focuses on curriculum development, research on the effectiveness and implementation of GIS in education, partnerships, communications, and conducting professional development institutes for educators and others. He has served in government, industry, and academia with a career-long focus on geotechnologies and how they can transform education and society. When not doing the above, Joseph may be found in the field with his GPS receiver or perhaps exploring a cave. Both days of the conference include user presentations as well as a special track for exhibitor demonstrations.
