Systems Engineering Software Standardization Workshop

ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 is the leading industry standard for software life cycle processes.  ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7, in conjunction with the IEEE, is in the process of creating a revision of 12207 that is fully harmonized with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, System life cycle processes.  In the last review of the draft revision of 12207, one of the major comments from the US (and others) was that the draft did not include enough "software-specific" content.  In order to try to improve the software content and establish a focused set of US comments, the US Technical Advisory Group (US TAG), in conjunction with the NDIA SE Division, is holding a 2-day workshop to determine any gaps and develop content and comments to ensure that 12207 contains relevant, useful SW content.  The workshop will be held at the Lockheed Martin Global Vision Center (GVC) on 7-8 October with no fee for participants.  We want to get some SW experts together to identify the necessary content that reflects the needs of the current software community.

Goal of the Workshop:

  • Shape the content of the software standard, while ensuring harmonization with 15288.

Objectives of the Workshop:

  • Identify and define additional areas of SW specific focus
  • Activities, tasks, notes, views, annexes, …-Identify anything that needs to come out of current version that is really hardware system specific
  • Determine the distribution of information between ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 and other docs-Suitability for use with various life cycle models
  • Including contemporary SW approaches
  • Includes identifying any associated changes needed
  • Establish a set of US comments that reflect the changes needed

Required skills/experience of participants:

  • Recognized SW Expertise in their organization
  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 and 15288

Preparation for the Workshop:

  • Review the current draft of 12207 prior to the meeting (draft will be sent to all participants as they contact the meeting organizers)
  • Capture a set of comments for discussion (use the comment spreadsheet that will accompany the draft)

Experts from the US TAG, the NDIA SED, DoD, and other identified parties are invited to participate or provide SW SMEs for the Workshop.
