The mission of the 2014 DoD Maintenance Symposium is to create an environment that enables attendees to share relevant information, identify critical issues, discuss key topics, and increase their awareness of Department of Defense maintenance initiatives. As the DoD Maintenance community navigates an era defined by global conflict and economic uncertainty, it is critical that we strategically shape our National Industrial Base. The dynamic global environment demands maintenance readiness-focused capabilities, founded in agility and efficiency, to properly respond to any National Security threat.

Our maintenance community has always delivered excellence and ensured the nation’s warfighters were able to respond effectively to every contingency. In this challenging environment, we must recognize that attributes of efficiency, capability or capacity must be considered collectively. As maintainers, we must ensure that our business practices are the very best government and industry have to offer. Accordingly, mutually beneficial public/private partnerships are absolutely crucial to our National Industrial capability.

We will also continue the tradition of recognizing the best maintenance units in the Department of Defense with the presentation of the Secretary of Defense Maintenance Awards, the highest awards for field and depot maintenance within DoD. This year, we are proud to establish a new Maintenance Award category, the Secretary of Defense Award for Excellence in Maintenance Training, Advice, and Assistance of Foreign Security Forces. The awards banquet is our opportunity to honor the award winning units for their outstanding achievements.
