Professionalization and the Cybersecurity Workforce

The increasing frequency and scale of reported cyber attacks, highlights the need for a cybersecurity workforce of sufficient size and quality to meet the evolving threat environment. To address this need, some cybersecurity experts call for enhanced professionalization requirements. Certification, licensure, skill-based competency exams, and a national association all have been advanced as components of a comprehensive workforce strategy to address the growing threat. Other experts suggest caution and argue that premature or overly broad professionalization efforts may do more harm to building the workforce than good. While experts debate the pros and cons of additional professionalization requirements, hiring managers in need of cybersecurity talent cannot afford to wait.

In this on-demand webinar, Dr. Burley will provide insight on the current cybersecurity workforce professionalization debate and its implications for business owners. Participants will learn the importance of:

  • Defining the cybersecurity workforce;
  • Identifying specific occupational shortcomings;
  • Monitoring current professionalization efforts;
  • Understanding the workforce implications of professionalization requirements; and
  • Developing novel approaches to meeting workforce needs
