Global Land and Poverty Summit
Since the beginning of humankind, there has been an economic connection between people and land. Whether it's for food, water, shelter, or economic reasons, people rely on land to survive. By understanding their relationship with geography, a society's people can make informed decisions about how its land can fulfill basic human needs and serve as a stable economic foundation.
Today, geographic technology data and analysis are being applied to build a new understanding about creating the foundation for a sustainable society and economic growth. This understanding presents solutions to challenges such as recognizing the legal land rights of the poor, upgrading slums, making agriculture sustainable, and managing water.
About the Global Land and Poverty Summit
Land and Economic Development
Many of the developing world's economic, health, and social issues are directly related to land. Geography helps us understand these problems and develop new solutions.
- Where are these problems concentrated and why?
- Will analyzing data in new ways reveal the root causes?
- What patterns can we recognize?
- What risks and opportunities do these patterns present?
- What actions can be taken to produce more stable societies?
Geographic analysis has been applied to form focused solutions throughout the developing world including Zambia, Somaliland, Egypt, and Haiti for food security, climate change impact mitigation, and much more. This analysis helps us understand these problems and know how to develop solutions.
The Global Land and Poverty Summit will explore how to leverage geographic technology to present solutions to the persistent problems faced by the poor. By bringing together the world's thought leaders and decision makers, the summit aims to create low-cost, practical solutions for healthy, sustainable societies.
