NIH Regional Seminar

Each year, the Office of Extramural Research (OER) sponsors the NIH Regional Seminars on Program Funding and Grants Administration. These seminars are intended to help demystify the application and review process, clarify Federal regulations and policies, and highlight current areas of special interest or concern. The seminars serve the NIH mission of providing education and training for the next generation of biomedical and behavioral scientist. NIH policy, grants management, review and program staff provide a broad array of expertise and encourage personal interaction between themselves and seminar participants. The seminars are appropriate for grants administrators, researchers new to NIH, and graduate students.

What's New in 2015?  Besides grants policy and process updates from NIH, this year the NIH is offering exciting new workshops as options on the day before the seminar for administrators and investigators!  In addition to ½ day pre-award and post-award eRA Workshops, we've added a ½ day Grants Administrator Boot Camp and a full day workshop on how to get research protocols through human subjects review.

The 2-Day agenda for the NIH Regional Seminar offers 3 tracks: Administrators, New Investigators, and All Interests.  This comprehensive array of sessions on the NIH grants process is open to seminar participants and no registration for particular sessions is required.  So feel free to choose what fits your needs best.  Session presentations are provided by NIH Grants Administration, Program, and Review Officials as well as policy experts from both NIH and HHS.

Redesigned New Investigator’s Track! This track has been redesigned to provide step-by-step guidance on mapping your career, an understanding of the funding process and what can be expected up to the time of award. To add to the array of topic choices, special interest sessions are provided on topics like research integrity, data sharing, foreign collaborations, and more.

Opportunities with NIH & HHS Experts:  Participants will find many opportunities throughout the 2-day seminar to meet presenters during breaks, at the NIH exhibit booths, and during lunch.  Attendees may also sign up during the 2-day seminar for our popular 1:1 Meet the Expert Chats.  These 10-15 discussion opportunities for attendees are with not only with seminar presenters, but additional NIH & HHS experts are on hand to meet specifically with attendees, answer questions and provide guidance.

Agenda:  The agenda provided below is still undergoing some final revisions but should be final soon.  The session times for specific sessions are subject to change until that time.
