Doing Business With the Federal Government

During this four-hour session at the Rayburn House Office Building, businesses with existing contracts, as well as those pursuing new business with the Department of Defense, Homeland Security and other federal agencies will learn about the promises and challenges of the 114th Congress. Participants will learn about the people, processes, tools and outcomes associated with legislative processes. With a focus on small business contacts, they will learn new skills to engage elected officials and their staffs. As a bonus, AFCEA membes will have the opportunity to engage with Congressman Richard Hanna (R-NY).

Topics include:

  • Methods to enhance awareness of elected officials;
  •  Use of “grassroots/grass-tops” and effective meeting techniques;
  • The role of legislative support organizations such as the Government Accountability Office (GAO), Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and Congressional Research Service (CRS);
  • The role of lobbyists and how to influence legislation.

Registered participants will develop questions pertaining to small business legislation and policy prior to the training.  A selected number of questions will be provided to Congressman Hanna to enable a robust question and answer session.

Beyond an improved understanding of how Congress works, this training affords attendees with the opportunity to engage Capitol Hill in a way that may benefit their business and bottom-line.
