Asia Pacific Export Controls 2015 for Asia

This event qualifies for 1.5 California CLE

“Due to the tremendous interest in our APAC export control webinar, we are putting on a second webinar on APAC export control updates, control lists, and classifications with those based in the Asia region in-mind.”

The last few months have been one of the most robust single periods of Asia export control development in a decade.  There will continue to be changes as we move through 2015 and into 2016, with several countries making modifications to their existing export controls and others taking important steps to establish a national export control system for the first time.  One of the biggest areas of change has been in national export control lists.  Since the beginning of the year, Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, and Taiwan are among APAC systems that have updated their export control lists, while Australia, Korea, and Malaysia have made or will be making larger reforms to their export control rules, and the Philippines and Thailand have announced plans to introduce comprehensive exports controls on dual-use items for the very first time.  With these changes and others, the Asia Pacific export control landscape is shifting dramatically, and the approach of companies and compliance teams operating in the broader APAC region will need to shift as well.

This webinar is intended to help companies in the electronics, industrial manufacturing, logistics, IT, aerospace, chemical, energy, and bio-tech sectors understand the changes that are taking place in APAC export controls, with special emphasis on what the changes in APAC control lists will mean for local and regional export control classification and compliance.  This webinar has been designed with APAC regional compliance teams and personnel responsible for covering multiple APAC countries and jurisdictions, in-mind. Specifically, this webinar will:

  • Deliver a comprehensive overview of the key export control-related developments in the Asia Pacific in 2015 and a look ahead to 2016 for Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan.

  • Help companies understand the implications of recent changes resulting from Australia’s own “export control reform”, Korea’s amendment of its Strategic Items Import and Export Notice and the announcements by Thailand and the Philippines of pending export control legislation, among others;

  • Provide a thorough review of the updates to the export control lists of Australia, China, Hong Kong, India and Taiwan and how they compare to other APAC system control lists and those of the United States (U.S.) and European Union (EU);

  • Offer practical tips for classifying—and maintaining the classifications of—products against APAC export control lists and how to work with government agencies to secure official classifications of items when working with cross-functional/regional teams; and,

  • Include URLs and links to current copies of all the updated export control lists and regulations covered in the webinar.

This webinar will provide PowerPoint slides and include live video and commentary from Jay Nash who specializes in non-US trade controls and compliance. Mr. Nash has worked with national governments from every region of the world to provide guidance and support on establishing domestic export control systems, and developing compliance tools and resources for industry.  Mr. Nash is a regular speaker and presenter at regional and international export control conferences, and he has published on East Asian trade control developments in the US, Japan, and Korea. Webinar participants are invited to submit questions during the webinar, the final 30 minutes of the webinar will be allotted to answering attendees' questions.
