Presenter Henry Costo will explain why it is essential that a department’s specification and selection processes be deliberate, and comprehensive. The presentation will outline a selection and specification program based on a set of debatable pros and cons and from developments in the latest research.

Henry Costo
Henry Costo recently retired as the deputy fire commissioner from the Philadelphia Fire Department after nearly 41 years of service. He climbed the career ladder and worked as deputy commissioner of technical services and deputy commissioner of operations. Commissioner Costo was responsible for all phases of the management and administration of the department’s comprehensive Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program and is a nationally recognized fire service subject matter expert in PPE. He served as the Metro Advocate Coordinator of the Everyone Goes Home program and is a recognized leader in cancer research and prevention efforts in the fire service. Costo serves as an expert technical reviewer for the NIOSH Firefighter Fatality Investigation & Prevention Program.
