Day 1 Sessions:
What Does It Mean to Secure the Internet of Things (IoT)? This discussion examines government and provider perspectives on implementing IoT strategies that enhance security in the government sector, including emerging questions on the attack surfaces where IoT security is most essential and cost-effective, which entities are responsible for protections, operating environments where security efforts should focus, and strategies for addressing customer IOT security concerns.
The Future of Identity Verification Beyond Biometrics in National Security -- Public and private sector stakeholders discuss why many government agencies—and businesses—are turning to multi-factor authentication for identity verification, moving beyond legacy biometrics-based systems to provide greater reliability and lower risk to missions involving counterterrorism, critical infrastructure protection, immigration reform, refugee and asylum resettlement, pre-employment vetting, and controlling access to protected information.
Protecting “Soft” Targets Against the Emerging ISIS and Homegrown Terrorist Threat -- Undefended “soft targets” such as office buildings, schools and retail establishments are vulnerable to homegrown terrorist attacks. This panel explores how policymakers, law enforcement, security professionals and community leaders are using current and emerging security standards, statutes, codes and technologies to help establish minimum security thresholds covering a broad range of assessed and unanticipated risk.
Solving the Video Data Dilemma: Challenges and Opportunities for Local Government -- Traditional enterprise server and storage infrastructure is often inadequate for modern IP video in diverse government applications, from body-worn cameras to fixed surveillance systems. This panel examines video data management issues facing policymakers, such as solutions for securing video data in transit and rest, tracking chain for custody, determining and applying use policies, using “hyper-converged” infrastructure and keeping a lid on operating costs.
Day 2 Sessions:
How Drones (unmanned vehicles), and Video Technology Are Redefining Situational Awareness -- Omnidirectional cameras now provide the kind of situational awareness and clarity that city governments, federal law enforcement, police departments and fire departments have long sought for emergency response in dense urban environments—particularly when deployed on drones. This panel examines the implications, ranging from federal agency missions to private security applications, in light of regulations, standards and legislative proposals.
Surface Transportation Security Trends: Bus, Rail and Mass Transit -- Government and industry panelists explain the latest technology, funding and policy developments affecting the deployment of transportation security and passenger safety solutions. The panel will discuss the implications for transit officials and security specialists, as well as security manufacturers and integrators.
SIA is also planning visits to Congressional Offices as well as a Welcome Reception for all Government Summit Attendees.
