Intelligence Support to the Arctic Conference

The North American Aerospace Defense Command and the United States Northern Command are sponsoring the upcoming Intelligence Support to the Arctic Conference on 16-17 November 2010. This conference will take place at the J.D. Hill Conference Center at the National Reconnaissance Office in Chantilly, VA.

In January 2009, the White House issued the Arctic Region Policy, National Security Presidential Directive – 66 and Homeland Security Presidential Directive – 25. This document outlines United States’ policies for the Arctic region. One major focus area, and the purpose for this conference, is strengthening national security and homeland security interests in the Arctic through understanding Arctic region intelligence capabilities and needs.

Some of the expected outcomes for this conference are to:

  • Understand NORAD/USNORTHCOM intelligence needs to support strategic and operational planning in the Arctic
  • Determine Arctic region intelligence gaps
  • Understand Intelligence Community strengths, weaknesses and equities as they relate to the Arctic
  • Identify how the Arctic fits into the National Intelligence Priorities Framework

All sessions will be held at the TOP SECRET/SI/TK security level, and conference attendees must hold this security clearance to attend. The majority of the sessions will be releasable to USA, AUS, CAN, GBR, NZL, with a NOFORN portion at the conclusion. All U.S. agencies and Five Eyes partner nations (United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and United Kingdom) with equities in the Arctic are invited to attend.
