US Air Force: Planning for the Future

This year has been a busy one for the U.S. Air Force. Operations in Iraq and Afghanistan - as well as humanitarian missions in Haiti and Pakistan - have demonstrated the varying, vital roles the Air Force plays in U.S. relations all over the world.

But in addition to executing these crucial missions, Air Force Chief of Staff General Norton A. Schwartz has management issues to contend with. With the draw-down of operations in Iraq, General Schwartz is facing a smaller budget, as well as rising personnel costs for training, benefits and retirement perks. These constraints will almost certainly mean a smaller force, increased automation, and more collaboration with other branches of the military. How does the Air Force plan to handle these challenges?

Join Government Executive Editor at Large Timothy B. Clark and General Schwartz as they discuss how the Air Force plans to meet the budgetary, technological and workforce challenges confronting all federal agencies.
