Application Rationalization: DoD Challenges and Solutions
Across the Department of Defense, Application Rationalization is playing a big role in helping enterprises improve their cybersecurity postures, lower IT costs, and streamline IT operating environments. Moreover, Application Rationalization is a key technical prerequisite for numerous IT modernization and standardization initiatives under way across the DoD. For example, Application Rationalization is a critical technical component of DoD’s Joint Information Environment (JIE) implementation strategy, a multiyear roadmap to consolidate, standardize and modernize the design and architecture of DoD networks. Likewise, Application Rationalization is a critical predecessor to DoD-wide efforts to migrate applications to the cloud and to consolidated data centers. And, finally, Application Rationalization has become an important exercise for DoD components as they plan and execute their migrations to the Windows 10 operating system.
Application Rationalization is the process of managing application sprawl — the buildup of old applications — by evaluating each application for its business and technical value and retiring or replacing applications as needed. This event will examine progress, challenges and best practices as DoD component organizations plan and execute their Application Rationalization initiatives.
During this collaborative discussion, we will examine:
- What strides have DoD and its components made in the area Software Application Rationalization?
- What challenges do they face?
- How does Application Rationalization integrate with other DoD initiatives such as Data Center Consolidation/Optimization, cloud migration, cybersecurity, network modernization, and JIE?
- How does Application Rationalization fit into DoD’s Windows 10 migration effort?
- What Application Rationalization best practices exist that can be shared across DoD?
