Export Compliance in Australia: What U.S. Companies Need to Know About Export Controls in Australia

If you are doing business with Australia, you need to be aware of how Australian export controls can impact your business practices. In this webinar, we will highlight some key similarities and differences between U.S. and Australian export controls that are important for compliance professionals to understand.

In the past three years, Australian export compliance regulations have been strengthened to control intangible exports (deemed exports) and the fallout remains unclear. Many Australian companies are still unaware of their new compliance responsibilities, or lack the resources to effectively manage the
new requirements. U.S. companies with operations in Australia need to understand how the new legislation affects the way in which Australian companies can conduct cross-border business.

The webinar will cover:

  • How U.S. and Australian controls compare and contrast including the control list and types of export licenses

  • How the Defence Trade Controls Act (DTCA) is changing the way export compliance is managed in Australia

  • The Australian concept of "Intangible Supplies" v the U.S. concept of "deemed export"

  • What Australian companies need to do to update their compliance programs for the DTCA

  • The culture of compliance from an Aussie point of view and how the Australian Government handles compliance violations

  • Why we have different concerns down under than our US colleagues when it comes to compliance with the ITAR and EAR

This webinar is designed for a U.S. audience of export compliance practitioners who seek to attain a deeper insight into Australian export controls. We’ll also outline ways in which U.S. companies can support their Australian subsidiaries in strengthening their compliance programs with the aim of ensuring that the controls mandated by the ITAR, EAR, and Australian regulations are appropriately managed.

This webinar will provide PowerPoint slides and include live video and commentary from Eva Galfi, who has over 15 years of experience as an international trade consultant assisting her clients with challenging import and export compliance issues. Webinar participants are invited to submit questions during the webinar; the final 30 minutes of the webinar will be allotted to answering attendees' questions.
