4th Annual Counter IED Summit

Improvised Explosive Devices remain the largest threat to our troopers as we expand into areas that previously served as insurgent sanctuaries.

General David Petraeus, Commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan

The threat posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) is the greatest threat facing American and NATO Forces today. Reports have shown that between 70-80% of troop casualties are caused by IEDs and that 2010 has been the deadliest year for US troops in Afghanistan since the war began.

IDGA’s 4th Annual Counter IED Summit will deliver a comprehensive overview of the requirements, emerging policies, programs, and methods involved in defeating and removing the IED threat. Featured discussions include the new IED challenges and developments being seen in the field, the Warfighter perspective on Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and the latest in detection tactics and technology.

Briefings will cover the recent changes in the directions from Defeating the Device to Attacking the Network. This transformation is coming about through institutional changes that are: reshaping detection, fostering new relationships with tribal leaders to attack the network, diverse training techniques that are bringing success to the Warfighter on the battlefield, and promoting greater collaboration amongst ground forces. With the increasing necessity to end the threat of IEDs, top leaders are searching for solutions on training, detection, and defeat in order to address an all encompassing strategy.

Counter IED 2011 will provide unique insight into the following areas:

  • Breakthrough and incremental improvements for C-IED technology
  • Discovering where the money is being spent in C-IED and EOD
  • New insurgent techniques and lessons learned
  • Solutions for attacking the source of the IED threat
  • Tackling the challenges with Afghanistan Home Made Explosive (HME) detection
  • Near and long term needs for IED defeat

Of all the IDGA conferences produced, Counter IED is the event that will provide the solutions and discussions with the quickest route to protecting the warfighter. This is a sensitive issue that deserves time and discussion from the services, industry experts, consultants, think tanks and non-profits. Given the importance of this topic, please refer any colleagues that work within this sector to this website so we can continue to help stop the unnecessary deaths of our soldiers abroad.
