Value for Money and Efficiency in Defence 2011

Doing more with less, maintaining quality, reducing costs and waste out of projects

Value for Money and Efficiency in Defence 2011 is an exciting new conference tailored to the current economic climate and specific government efficiency drives.

Defence budgets in many parts of the world have been severely constrained. With concerted efforts to tackle wider deficits, defence has been singled out for efficiency and value for money drives.

Understandably, many are finding it increasingly difficult to sustain their programmes at current levels and this will prove more challenging over the next few years:

  • US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has committed to saving $100m over the next five years
  • France is aiming to cut $3.9Bn over the next three years
  • Germany is looking at upwards of $10Bn worth of savings
  • The UK is aiming to 'ruthlessly' cut its defence budget by 8% following a Strategic Defence and Security Review

Industry needs to react to this growing trend by rationalising and leaning processes and Governments have been no different. This conference is designed to help world militaries and defence procurement officials succeed in doing more with less, reassessing their priorities and learning about new ways of working. It will:

  • Demonstrate tried and tested methods for doing more with less;
  • Use concrete examples of cost-effective procurement with case studies from militaries currently facing implications from increased budget pressures;
  • Unravel usable examples of reorganising processes through methods including Lean and Systems Thinking;
  • Underline cost saving measures such as successful joint working, interoperability and through life management.

Attended by leading Commanding Officers, Programme Directors and Defence Procurement Officials, the conference will be an event not to be missed.
