There’s a good reason that the Report on Federal IT Modernization identifies the cloud as an essential platform for IT in the years ahead. Cloud has the potential not only to improve the efficiency of existing services, but also to enable the development of a new generation of services. But there are still a lot of questions to be answered. To fully leverage cloud computing, agencies need to rethink their IT architecture, address lingering questions about security, and begin exploring new models for extending the reach of cloud-based applications. This event will bring together government and industry experts to discuss the evolution of cloud in the federal government.

Potential topics to be addressed include:

• Has FedRamp become an “easy button” to help solve the challenges of architecting environments within the context of federal regulations? What challenges still need to be overcome?
• Is your agency using “out of the box” solutions, or are you working with your providers to create customized tools and applications?
• Security seems to be the “easy objection” around cloud. How are you handling the security question with internal stakeholders?
• How can edge computing and distributed cloud environments help shorten the pathways for end-users working across the nation and around the globe?

AFCEA Bethesda's Monthly Breakfast series features panel discussions led by senior-executive government representatives. The goals of the event series are to foster better inter-agency communication, share best practices and lessons learned and identify mission-critical IT issues affecting the federal IT community. With speakers drawn largely from federal civilian agencies, the panel format offers a compelling snapshot of multiple agency perspectives.
