AUSA ILW Combined Arms Maneuver Symposium & Exposition

The Association of the United States Army (AUSA), in conjunction with the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center (CAC), presents the inaugural AUSA ILW Combined Arms Maneuver Symposium and Exposition, to be held 26–28 July 2011 at the Kansas City Convention Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Today’s Army has amassed a wealth of combat experience that must be honed through continued professional education and training to develop agile and adaptive military and civilian leaders who are able to operate effectively in joint, interagency, intergovernmental and multinational environments. The intent of this symposium is to stimulate dialogue among senior governmental leaders, military leaders and industry concerning the Army’s current operational environment and examine what has been learned from more than nine years of war.

Scope and Objective

This symposium brings together the public and private sectors to examine lessons learned over almost a decade of war to better understand the capabilities required to operate decisively in a complex 21st century strategic environment. Achieving such decisive capability requires Army forces able to conduct Combined Arms Maneuver (CAM) against hybrid threats in increasingly complex and uncertain operational environments. Today’s Army faces a broad array of challenges. First and foremost, it must succeed in Iraq and Afghanistan and continue to combat violent extremist movements. It must also prepare for future national security challenges that span the spectrum of conflict. Such challenges will rise unpredictably, vary in intensity and scope, and be less susceptible to traditional means of conflict resolution. To succeed in this environment, the Army must possess the ability both to conduct CAM to exploit opportunities and seize the initiative, and to establish wide-area security (WAS) to consolidate gains and stabilize the environment. Senior leaders from across the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, industry and academia will attend and provide insights throughout the three-day symposium. Army senior leadership, military and civilian alike, will participate in panel discussions and separately address participants on a variety of topics. Those discussions will examine the Army’s current force capabilities against our responsibility to conduct CAM and consider methods to address potential gaps/redundancies across DOTMLPF (Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel and Facilities)—a problem-solving construct for assessing current capabilities and managing change—while focusing on topics such as mission command and network integration; materiel solutions to CAM/WAS; and general purpose and special operations forces integration. The 2011 Combined Arms Maneuver Symposium and Exhibition promises to be a singularly outstanding venue for industry, contractors, civilians and the military to partner in future endeavors. Come and observe the latest technological advances that allow Soldiers to maintain overmatching capabilities now and in the future as they execute their responsibilities in combined arms maneuver and wide-area security. As agenda details become available, they will be posted on the AUSA website at
