Revised Nutrient Criteria and TMDLs: New Requirements Need New Solutions

Benefits

In 2007, EPA published a memo encouraging states to expedite efforts to develop water quality criteria for nitrogen and phosphorus. As states develop new criteria for nutrients, it is likely that more waters will be listed as impaired for nutrients, and total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) which require higher levels of nutrient controls will be implemented. As local governments and industries continue to do more with fewer resources, innovative solutions will be needed to address nutrient-related water quality problems across the nation.

This live audio conference will identify the potential implications of nutrient criteria and resulting TMDLs and provide examples of innovative planning approaches to address these issues more cost-effectively.
