U.S. Census Bureau IT Security Conference & Expo



This annual event, hosted by the Information Technology Security Office, is intended to raise computer security awareness for Census employees and contractors. The Census Bureau's IT Security Conference and Expo will be held onsite at Census HQ and feature various speakers from the U.S. Census Bureau as well as other government agencies and industry. In the past, speakers have included the Chief of IT Security for Census, Associate Director for Information Technology and CIO for Census, Chief Privacy Officer for Census and Computer Security for National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The industry expo is an integral part of the Conference. Exhibitors are encouraged to participate in sessions and network with Census personnel. Speaking slots and sponsorship opportunities are available - please ask your FBC representative for details!

In 2009, over 250 Census employees participated in the IT Security Conference and Expo. The IT Security Conference and Expo is heavily supported throughout Census HQ with the following in attendance; Special Assistant to the CIO, ISSO for Census HQ and the ISSO for DACMO, Division Security Officer, IT Specialists, Security Analysts, Computer Specialists, and Network Engineers.

The mission of the Bureau of the Census within the Economics and Statistics Administration (under the Department of Commerce), is to serve as the leading source of quality data about the Nation’s people and economy.

The Census Bureau employs nearly 12,000 people with the workforce expanding dramatically when the census is taken every 10 years. Headquartered just outside Washington, DC in Suitland, MD, the Census Bureau has 12 regional offices: Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Seattle; and a processing center in Jeffersonville, Ind.

The 2010 Census preparations include focusing on early planning and development efforts; improving the accuracy of map feature locations; and continuing the American Community Survey. Census is continually re-evaluation each of its programs to see how it can best continue to meet the needs of the policymakers, businesses and the public.
