A Platform to Help Save Lives and Save Nature by Robotto

This webinar will go through the statistics of wildfires, how they are caused, the frequency and severity of wildfires. How they are impacted by global warming, and because of that, are creating a snowball effect, that releases millions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, generating higher frequencies in extreme weather phenomenon, such as floods, droughts, and lightning storms, that are leading to an increase frequency and severity of wildfires.

The webinar will then go through the current methods of both detecting and combating these wildfires. On the detection side the use of fire watch towers, satellites, and aerial vehicles. How they are suffering from the same mistake, the interaction of humans to detect fires. Furthermore, how current wildfire management is not adequate due to the dry terrain that is now allowing for wildfires to move and increase in size faster than what these methods were developed for.

Lastly, the webinar will have a look at how robotic technologies can be used to better detect and combat wildfires using computer vision and artificial intelligence. With new hardware such as 4K cameras, computer vision and artificial intelligence technology can provide a constant scouting for fires, either flames or smoke. Furthermore, thermal imagery can make sure that flames are being detected at night as well. Integrating these technologies together with UAV’s will allow for constant reconnaissance operations in high risk areas. No matter if at night or in heavy smoke, UAV fixed wings can perform recon over large areas, faster, safer, and cheaper than current solutions.
