The Intersection of Data Technology with Humanity: The Plight of Health Disparities

Join REI Systems and Howard University for our inaugural Government Technology Breakfast forum with lessons learned from FDA and NIH on how they each use AI to address minority health disparities and the general challenges of AI/ML regarding inclusivity, data curation, and calculations (algorithms and labels) that result in negative biases towards marginalized populations. Monitoring and ethical review of impacts is a critical metric that indicates appropriate technical applications and proper social responsibility to mitigate health disparities in some areas and to prevent a larger health disparity gap in other areas.

• Dr. Christine Lee: Lead for strategic research engagement for the Office of Minority Health and Health Equity in the Office of the Commissioner at the FDA

Both Dr. Lee & Dr. Duran will be sharing their experience using AI to detect, understand, and address minority health disparities.
