The FirstNet Health and Wellness Coalition: A Strategic Approach to Addressing First Responder Health and Wellness

Description: First responders experience health risk factors that far exceed the general population – simply by the nature of their work. And there are different levels of intervention to help influence health, according to the socio-ecological model of health and behavior change. These include the individual; the family, unit or group; the organization and community; and federal and national levels.
The FirstNet Health and Wellness Program, created by FirstNet, Built with AT&T, adopted the evidenced based approach to addressing health promotion at the organizational level. We’ll talk through different strategies for addressing first responder health and wellness. And we’ll demonstrate the key components of the FirstNet Health and Wellness Coalition.
This presentation will:
- Describe the framework of how to engage in supporting First Responder Health and Wellness
- Describe the key components of the coalition
- Demonstrate how FirstNet, Built with AT&T, used the existing infrastructure of FirstNet Builder, AT&T, to support first responder health and wellness
Bio: Dr. Anna Fitch Courie, DNP, RN, MS, PHNA-BC, Director of Responder Wellness, FirstNet Program at AT&T is a nurse, Army wife, former university faculty, and author. Dr. Courie has worked for over 20 years in the health care profession including Bone Marrow Transplant, Intensive Care, Public Health, and Health Promotion practice and evaluation. Dr. Courie holds a bachelor’s in nursing from Clemson University; a master’s in nursing education from the University of Wyoming; and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Ohio State University. Dr. Courie’s area of expertise is integration of public health strategy across disparate organizations to achieve health improvement goals.
