Confining Fires Online Training

Interior elements and building design interact and play a role in the containment of fire within the compartment of origin. A Certified Fire Protection Specialist® (CFPS®) must be familiar with the impact of fire load and fire severity in these types of situations and how resulting fire resistance ratings are calculated. In the Confining Fires Online Training, participants explore the use of construction features, built-in equipment, and confinement techniques to slow the spread of fire and products of combustion throughout the building.

At the end of the course, you should be able to: 

• Recall primary topics located in Section 18 of the Fire Protection Handbook® (FPH).
• Explain how fire resistance ratings are calculated.
• Describe the role of elements in the confinement of fires.
• Summarize the design techniques that are available to assess structural fire resistance.
