Characteristics, Storage, And Handling Of Materials And Products Online Training

Hazard control involves three primary elements: controlling the likelihood of ignition, containing fire spread, and managing fire impact. It is critical for the Certified Fire Protection Specialist® (CFPS®) to be familiar with the concepts and protocols of fire safety and how codes and standards regulate the use of materials in specific applications and provide guidance on how to store them safely. The Characteristics, Storage, and Handling of Materials and Products Online Training extends the study of fire chemistry and dynamics to the burning behavior of materials and products, as well as how this behavior can be measured and controlled.

Valuable features in the Characteristics, Storage, and Handling of Materials and Products course include virtual tours of three distinctive fire scenes, a 3D interactive fire scene walkthrough tool and knowledge check, and a demonstration on diffusion flame/premixed flame rate of burn. Participants are also able to access job and learning aids such as investigation reports, a video case study on a large combustible dust fire, and drag and drop knowledge check games to test your understanding of hazardous materials handling and descriptions.

At the end of the online training, you should be able to:

  • Recall primary topics located in Sections 6 and 7 of the Fire Protection Handbook® (FPH).
  • Explain how gases, liquids, and solids can be fire hazards.
  • Describe the evolution of fire testing standards.
  • Differentiate materials, products, and their burning behaviors.
  • Describe storage arrangement and handling methods of materials.
